[FC Estuera]Phil Weston “IAG played like we knew”

At 22h15 gmt of yesterday the referee blow his whistle to allow Itsagoal FC x FC Estuera game to start and who would imagine that 3 minutes later Itsagoal FC would be winning?

Well that was exactly what happened. Lindon Meikle intercepts a pass from Juan Team in Wales and gives the ball to Stephen Messi that still outside the box shoots to score the winning goal.

After the match we talked with FC Estuera manager.

Centro Desportivo - surprising defeat or disappointing defeat?

Phil Weston - Surprising and disappointing. All I can say is watch the replay and it will become obvious what went wrong yesterday evening. It’s one of those matches you only get once every few seasons. We didn’t expect to lose against IAG of course, we had 2 brand new players playing their first match of importance for us and surely being on a big chempen is hard in the beginning, we never expected it to turn out like this. I can honestly say that the result would’ve been the same if these guys were unchemmed. It was a 1star evening for us, even worse than first game of previous season in which we had 10 shots at goal but no goal... this time, we didnt even get the chance to shoot that much, everytime we tried to make an attack we were broken down because of a 1star action, or well, IAG getting lucky to get so much 3star actions. One action described our match today. IAG taking a controlled shot from far outside the box, the shot is 1 bar and easy for our keeper to save. I think even with a 1 star save a keeper could get this, but Higuita got a red star save on it and it was 1-0 after 5 minutes. The rest of the match was more of the same. Some experienced players on our team admitted that this was the most one-sided ME game they had ever played since they started playing the game. After the match the IAG players also agreed that this was not a normal game at all, IAG got all, we had nothing. The sad truth. I prefer not to call them lucky, rather say we were unlucky. IAG played well, despite having the 3stars; they didn’t have a lot of goal chances either.

 I hate to blame the ME for a result, but those blame me for doing now should really check out the replay of the game.

 I'm disappointed, on the other hand I don’t think we were bad, it just wasn’t meant to be for us and if that’s so, you’ve got to accept that and hope for the best, even though you know it won’t happen. We can give this a place, then just forget the game and look back for the return where we will try to beat IAG again.

Centro Desportivo - New players, some with awesome background, not enough to win IAG?

Like I said, I can’t blame the new players for this. Estuera of 1 month ago is not worse than the team we have now, the difference is that we now have more stats on the places where we needed reinforcement. If we had played this game last month or yesterday, the result would have been the same. I said so before, but there is a decent amount of time needed for newly arrived players to start getting effective. Especially dribblers and strikers feel chem penalty a lot. I'm sure Tito will have fewer problems.

You can’t argue about the qualities of players like Lambe Mos, Tito Gladiador, Michelangeli and Phenomenon, those players know the game and will be a big plus for our team, their stats can also make the difference in hard times, something we didn’t have until a few weeks ago.

I needed to get these players in early this season, otherwise they would still feel the chemistry penalty too much at the start next season and I don’t want that. I want to go on full power next season. We should be good at the start next season, and very good in the return.

I don’t like the idea of people suddenly thinking we are suddenly being a much better team because of these transfers we did. It doesn’t work like that on FID. There's no such thing as a reinforcement that is super effective right away here.

-What surprised you the most on IAG play?

IAG played like we knew they would play, their 8 comes inside a lot and there were instructions giving how to cope with that. I think I already said last season that feel like IAG is a very good team. There should be no doubt that this team will take a lot of points of the top teams this season and the upcoming seasons.
